Völkl Racetiger GS 2019 is the top of the Race range produced by the German brand. This re-designed ski model with 3D GLASS and improved UVO 3D system is now available in 4 different sizes: 170, 175, 180 and 185 cm. It comes with Titanium inlays, Speedwall Multi-Layer wood core, with extra-hard wood located just behind the sidewall. 69mm width under the foot, a pre-mounted rMotion2 binding with GripWalk compatibility and the stable ride of UVO 3D round out the true World Cup sensations. Style department made also a look refreshments with this new neon green - bright red colour layout.

Technologies

3D GLASS is Völkl’s latest development to furthermore improve overall ski performance and stability even in critical snow conditions. Compared to classic glass frames, the three-dimensional and multiple-folded glass layers in the tip&tail zone or the binding area result in an increased edge grip on hard and icy terrain, plus a more vivid rebound behaviour in turns.

UVO 3D - Ultimate Vibration Object 3D it’s the first freely rotating, vibration damper for skis. The terrain below the ski generates vibrations, which in turn set the shovel into chattering. This significantly disrupts the smoothness of the ski-ride and makes it harder to hold an edge. The revolutionary UVO technology works against this, through proven dampening in the form of reduced vibrations in the horizontal and, since this season, in vertical directions as well as along the length of the ski.

Construction

Speedwall Multilayer Woodcore it’s the Völkl secret recipe for this ski. A perfect mix of hardwood layers on the sides, and more flexible-lighter wood in the middle. This mix provides numerous advantages: higher power transmission, better edge grip and steering precision. Full Sidewalls mean 100% sandwich constructions on all the length. The Titanium Powered setup makes the ski solid, agile and dynamic.

Bindings

Since the previous winter season, the new Rmotion2 16 GW Race binding has been developed in coordination with Marker, especially for Racetiger Speedwall UVO series. This is a complete system whose new, significantly lighter race plate ensures optimal flex and grip. Also, it allows for a significantly improved transfer of power and control, particularly on the sidewalls. DIN-ISO: 6.0-16.0

Skialo test results

The Skialo Team tested the Völkl Racetiger GS 2019 on the local resort's slopes, at Mottolino and Carosello ski areas. The ski is fluid and agile in the medium/wide curves and very intuitive. Compared to the 2018 version, the modified geometry and tip rocker profile, make it quite easy to handle even in short turns. The ideal terrain of this ski is the groomed trail, with optimal snow conditions. On hard and icy snow occasionally tends to shake a bit, but overall has excellent stability. It's a funny ski, which does not require excessive effort from the legs and maintains its historical ease of use — recommended for advanced skiers or experts, with proper physical training.
