Livigno ski lifts: the complete guide

Gondolas, chairlifts and surface lifts in Livigno: how many there are, opening hours, what has changed in recent years and the planned link between the two sides.

Livigno has 31 lifts: 6 gondolas, 14 chairlifts and 11 surface lifts, spread across the two sides of the valley. Several have been rebuilt in recent years, partly ahead of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, when Livigno hosted the snowboard and freestyle skiing events.

What has changed in recent years

  • Mottolino gondola: 10-seat cabins with heated seats, just over 5 minutes to the top against 9 on the old lift.
  • Monte Sponda chairlift: 8 seats, with protective bubbles and heated seats.
  • Easy Lift: a surface lift that came into service in the 2024/25 season.
  • Altavista chairlift: 6 seats with bubble and heated seats, on Carosello 3000, reaching 2,794 metres, the highest point served by the lifts.
  • Baby Lac Salin chairlift renewed and the Federia lift upgraded to cut queues.

At Passo Eira the 6-seat Trepalle chairlift, opened in 2018, links the hotels and slopes on the pass with the top of the Mottolino gondola: handy if you are staying on that side.

Opening hours

In winter the lifts usually run between 8:30 and 17:00, but each lift has its own times and the weather can change them. In spring some open earlier: in April 2026 the Carosello 3000 gondola opened at 7:45, with the last ride up at 16:00. Before you head out, check the lift status on Skipass Livigno.

The types of lift you will find

Gondolas

They take you up quickly and out of the wind. They are the most comfortable option with children, and some also run in summer for people going up with a bike or on foot.

Chairlifts

The most common type. The new ones are fast, have a bubble against the wind and in some cases heated seats.

Surface lifts

You find them mostly in ski school areas and on beginner slopes, where people take their first turns.

How to get from one side to the other

Mottolino and Carosello 3000 are not linked by a lift today: you go down to the town and take the bus, as explained in our ski bus guide. A new two-section gondola with 10-seat cabins is planned between Carosello, Freita and Valfin: it is expected to open for the 2027/28 season, depending on how the work progresses.

The slopes for you

Before you go up, look at the piste map and choose by colour. Blue is for beginners, red for those who control their turns well, black for confident skiers. For some ideas, see our article on the best slopes in Livigno.
